Paul Geng's third release "Modern Day Pygmalion" provides a lush musical experience for the listener and a breath of fresh air for anyone tired of the commercial garbage which dominates the airwaves. The first single and highlight of the album "Two Kinds of People" is a heartfelt song dedicated to a long-lost love interest. The soft tone of Geng's voice blends perfectly with the slow, steady melody of the song. The faster tempo and violin accompaniment during the chorus provides a welcome transition from the generally slower tempo of the song.
Paul Geng's vocal abilities are showcased on the title track "Modern Day Pygmalion". The changing tone of his voice draws the listener into this melodically complex track. Both "On Rainy Days" and "It's Not A Crime" are slower songs which are perfect for relaxing and winding down after a hard day's work. "Old Montauk Highway" traces back to Geng's roots as a young child growing up in Flushing, New York and is an upbeat tune with a high potential for radio success.
Overall, there is not a misstep on "Modern Day Pygmalion". The album transitions smoothly from song to song, and provides for a complete overall effort. Geng's immense talent at songwriting and playing guitar make him one of the most talented up and coming indie artists out there.

Paul Geng's Modern Day Pygmalion
by Paul Zimmerman, First Coast News
Sometimes you really can't judge a CD by its cover. Paul Geng's Modern Day Pygmalion is a perfect example of this because despite what this looks like on the outside (take a look on your right), it sounds nothing like that on the inside.
Geng is a multi-talented artist that plays a combination of blues, rock, and folk so well that you'd swear this guy had been on like three major labels and released like 25 albums. With that being said, Modern Day Pygmalion is a super produced record that sounds like Geng and his band are in your living room playing; bass lines jump out of your speakers and thump next to you, guitars and drums surround your ears and sound three dimensional.
Modern Day Pygmalion is a fairly good record that has so many textures and emotions written into it that it's almost impossible to catch it all on the first listen. Strings, harps, and just about everything else make an appearance and when you realize that Geng did everything himself it's even more impressive.
From, "Two Kinds of People," to "City Malaise," Paul Geng proves himself to be a great songwriter and one heck of an musician. Modern Day Pygmalion is an impressive record by a guy who knows his way around more instruments and genres than most bands. Modern Day Pygmalion is adult alternative the way it should be done.
